Member Spotlight: Liv Haynes – The Voice Behind the Screen

If you’ve ever been to a karaoke potluck, attended one of our monthly board game nights or heard a mysterious voice in an indie video game, chances are you’ve met Liv Haynes! A full-time computer programmer with a deep creative soul, Liv is a self-described “voice-acting, record-collecting, wax-stamping, slipper-sock-crocheting” force of joy, and one of the vibrant personalities helping shape DFW Young & Social in person and online.

Background & Journey

Liv grew up right here in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex with a brief detour in Illinois (but we won’t hold it against them 😉). From childhood rodeos to exploring the creative pockets of the cities, they’ve been woven into the local fabric for as long as they can remember.

“DFW is home to me… No matter what, I’ll always be a proud Texan.”

And it’s hard not be with the amazing Texas BBQ that we’re known for!

Passions & Work

By day, Liv works as a computer programmer at the University of North Texas. But even in tech, creativity shines through.

“Programming hits both the creative and logical parts of my brain. Debugging a problem that’s been haunting your team for weeks? It’s cathartic. You feel like a genius.”

Outside of work, Liv is a multidisciplinary artist — a digital creator, singer, and rising voice actor featured in indie games like Broken Relic and The Bureau of Fantastical and Arcane Affairs. Their favorite role so far? Kaelvorn, a character in Broken Relic, available to play right now on Steam.

They’ve recently started dabbling in music production, inspired by K-Pop Demon Hunters, and are learning FL Studio while diving back into vocal training.

“I hope to share some of my music in the future!”

Community Connection

Liv discovered DFW Young & Social through a hiking event on Meetup.

“We talked about common interests, learned a lot about each other… After the event, I knew I’m sticking with this group.”

Since then, they’ve become a familiar face at karaoke nights and D&D tables alike. One of their favorite memories?

“Shoutout to The Table! iykyk. Singing group songs with friends and eating amazing food? Chef’s kiss. Pun absolutely intended.”

They’re also a Dungeon Master for a D&D group that spun out of DFWYAS. A full-circle connection between community and creativity.

Life Beyond Work

When not coding or performing, Liv keeps life colorful with an array of joyful hobbies. They’re learning Japanese again, working toward becoming a polyglot (“難しい,でも楽しいね!”), crocheting handmade gifts for loved ones (like slipper socks for their mom), and collecting vinyl records — their latest gem is Because the Internet by Childish Gambino.

And then there’s the wax stamps.

“I made some for D&D prop letters and now I’m absolutely in love with making them.”

Seattle tops their travel list so far, but Norway is the dream! A chance to connect with ancestral roots and continue exploring what it means to belong.

Looking Ahead

Next year, Liv turns 30, and they’re embracing it with enthusiasm.

“I’m looking forward to another decade of growth, adventures, and, most importantly, memories with the friends I’ve made here at Young and Social.”

They carry a favorite quote from Persona 4, a reminder of their worth on even the hardest days:

“Just being born, living your life… before you know it, you are already special to someone.”

Liv’s story is a reminder that curiosity doesn’t fade, it evolves. Whether they’re creating art, solving bugs, or building memories around the table, Liv brings a spark that reminds us all how magical it is to simply show up as ourselves.
